Minister Landau is Israel’s Minister of Tourism. Landau was born in 1943 in Haifa. His father, Haim, was a member of the Irgun and later served as a Member of Knesset of the Herut Movement. After serving in the army as a paratrooper, Uzi began his academic career in which he attained a masters degree from the Technion and a Phd from MIT in Massachusets. Dr. Landau entered the Knesset in 1984 as a member of Likud. In 2005, he left the Likud Party in protest to the Disengagement from Gaza. In 2008, he joined Israel Beytenu.

Landau was Minister of Water and Energy during the 18th Knesset.

Uzi Landau served as the Minister of Energy and Water during the 18th Knesset and ushered in many reforms and achievements:

  • The water system is undergoing an accelerated development program.  Israel currently desalinates 300 million cubic meters of water a year.  Within three years that amount will double to 600 million.
  • Construction of private power plants to create competition in the electricity market and reduce the price for consumers.
  • Overseeing the natural gas revolution and developing its use to generate electricity as a petrol substitute.
  • Huge investments in infrastructure – particularly in the sewage systems in Israel’s periphery to make sure that every part of Israel enjoys comparable infrastructure standards.
