MK Hamed Amar has put forward a law proposal that would insure that members of the Druze population see proportional representation in public sector employment. Today, Druze make up 1.6% of the general population but only .5% of public sector workers.
"With a view to greater integration of the Druze community, I would like to see more Druze in public sector jobs – especially those concerned with business and job creation.
"The implementation of this law would open the door to new solutions for the huge problem of unemployment in the Druze community and make the government more accessible for Druze who don't feel fully represented," said MK Amar
Until now, Druze representation in the public sector hasfallen under the category of Arab representation. However, MK Amar wants the unique nature of the Druze community and its employment issues be recognized by the law and addressed separately.
