FM Lieberman on official visit to the Czech Republic
FM Lieberman and his hosts discussed bilateral issues and issues relating to the Israeli relationship with the European Union. He also briefed his hosts on the start of negotiations with the Palestinians.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman met today (Monday 20 September 2010) in Prague with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Nečas, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg, with Minister of Defence Alexandr Vondra, with Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Přemysl Sobotka and with other senior officials.
During the course of the meetings, FM Lieberman and his hosts discussed bilateral issues and issues relating to the Israeli relationship with the European Union. He also briefed his hosts on the start of negotiations with the Palestinians. FM Lieberman informed Prime Minister Nečas that it is essential for Israel and the Palestinian Authority to reach a long-term interim agreement: "Any attempt to artificially accelerate the process can be compared to a premature birth that endangers both sides - both the mother and the baby. Therefore, the negotiations must continue in a natural manner as well." During the meeting with Prime Minster Nečas, the issue of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's intended visit to the Czech Republic during 2011 was also discussed.
At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg, the two ministers discussed the promotion of research and development agreements and the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries.
