    The Ministerial Committtee Approves MK Michaeli’s School Book Bill

    On Monday MK Michaeli presented a bill to the Ministerial Committee seeking the banning of the sale of sets containing workbooks, CDs and textbooks together.  MK Michaeli would like to see it “prohibited to sell packages like these that force parents to buy a new textbook just because they need the workbook.”        Michaeli’s bill is the first step of a larger reform that will ultimately see school books free of charge to parents and children.       The Knesset...

    Minister Misezhnikov Reports Record Numbers For December Tourism

    A new report issued by the Ministry of Tourism and the Central Bureau of Statistics proudly proclaims December 2009 the most visitor-laden December in Israeli history, in which 225,000 tourists set foot on the Holy Land.The number is a substantial 11% increase from the same month in 2008.Overall, 2.7 million tourists visited Israel in 2009, 10% less than in 2008, making 2009 the second highest tourism year on record.     Knesset Supports MK Matalon's Bill on Drug Treatment to Sex Offenders

    The Knesset plenum passed in preliminary reading a bill which supports a personal preemptive program for sex offenders, which will include drug treatment suppressing sexual impulses. Forty-two MKs voted in favor of the bill, proposed by Moshe Matalon.  The bill met with no objections. According to the bill, a court will approve the plan according to an evaluation of the offender and subject to his consent.(ynet)
