(24-02-2010) MK Alex Miller Passes Law to Cut Funding to Nakba Events |
The Knesset's Constitution, Law and Justice Committee passed in second reading the "refined Nakba law". According to the amended proposal, the Treasury will be authorized to cut off funding to institutions that support activity that undermines the Jewish and democratic character of the State of Israel. However, there will be no criminal aspects to marking the Israeli Independence Day as a day of mourning. Beytenu MK Alex Miller, who initiated the bill, said, "I have no doubt that the current formula addresses that various threats that use democracy to flight it and undermine its foundations." (ynet)
