(28-10-2009) MK Rotem Chairs a Stormy Knesset Committee Meeting
In a meeting of the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, its Chair, Beytenu MK David Rotem held a spontaneous and heated debate with MK Ahmed Tibi on whether it was justified to deny government funding to anti-Zionist events. While Mr. Tibi shouted that he would not be coerced into becoming a Zionist, Mr. Rotem explained that this law was not about forcing any one to embrace Zionism. The proposed law was about refusing to support public proclamations and incitement against Israel as a Jewish state. Mr. Rotem said that Mr. Tibi was welcome to live here - no one was asking him to leave - but that Israel was and always will be a Jewish state.
