(08-10-2009) Ministers Landau and Aharonovitch to Present Bill on Outlawing the Islamic Movement

The cabinet will consider legislation banning the Islamic Movement being drafted by Israel Beytenu ministers Uzi Landau and Yitzhak Aharonovitch, sources in the party said Tuesday. Landau also demanded the indictment of Muslim leaders who were calling for violence and confrontation in the capital and encouraging hateful anti-Israeli sentiment, among them "Sheikh Raed Salah and his ilk."

"Israel must stop paying the salaries of imams and heads of mosques who engage in incitement against the State of Israel," he said.

He also called for discussion in the cabinet on bringing PA activity in Jerusalem to a halt.

Landau said that implementing his suggestions could possibly "put a stop to the inflammation that brings about the wounding of soldiers, stone-throwing, riots and clashes."

Minister Landau spoke against th backdrop of riots in the Jerusalem's Old City, which have been breakign out spradically since Yom Kippur. The riots have been directly incited by the PA, whose official media outlets and institutions have been stoking Arab flames by claiming right-wing extremist Jews are attempting to threaten Al-Aksa Mosque - a decades-old blood libel that should be easily dismissible in light of heavy Israeli restrictions on Jews and Christians from ascending the Mount during most hours of the day, whereas Muslims are usually free to access the site 24/7.

Indeed, Israeli law prohibits Jews and Christians from praying on the site. If any so-called extremist Jew attempted to enter Al-Aksa, he or she would likely be immediately removed from the Temple Mount by Israeli police, who follow Jewish tour groups very closely and coordinate with the Wakf, the Islamic custodians of the site.
