(03-02-2010) The Ministerial Committtee Approves MK Michaeli’s School Book Bill
On Monday MK Michaeli presented a bill to the Ministerial Committee seeking the banning of the sale of sets containing workbooks, CDs and textbooks together. MK Michaeli would like to see it “prohibited to sell packages like these that force parents to buy a new textbook just because they need the workbook.” Michaeli’s bill is the first step of a larger reform that will ultimately see school books free of charge to parents and children. The Knesset plenum will discuss the bill on Wednesday and put it to a premilinary vote. “I am pleased with the Ministerial Committee’s decision to support this bill and especially grateful to Education Minister Gidon Sa’ar, who has been very supportive from the beginning. This bill strengthens the value of equality in the educational system and save families hundreds of shekels – not a negligible sum in the family budget,” said MK Michaeli
