From Avigdor Lieberman
(23-02-2010) Lieberman to Irish FM: No link between Israel and Dubai hit

Foreign minister holds meeting with fellow Irish, Czech, Romanian FMs in Brussels; tells Dublin's Michael Martin there is no evidence connecting Jerusalem to Dubai hit. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman met Monday with his Irish counterpart Michael Martin, just shortly after the European Union published an official censure of the Dubai assassination. Martin reportedly demanded that Israel explain its involvement in the fabrication of Irish passports used in the operation.

Lieberman and Martin met in Brussels. The Israeli foreign minister was adamant in claiming that there is not so much as a shred of evidence connecting Israel to the hit on Hamas operative Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

"If evidence to the contrary would have been presented, other than in media reports, we would comment," he said. "Since such evidence doesn’t exist, there is no need to comment."

Lieberman added that Israel is often made to be the scapegoat: "The Middle East has a lot of internal struggles between nations and bodies that are not as democratic as Israel," he said, clarifying the he meant Fatah, Hamas and al-Qaeda.

Upon arriving in Brussels, Lieberman met with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohot and the Romanian FM Teodor Baconschi. He is also scheduled to meet with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.
